We're So Back by UPC
The NationStates site opened back up in early February, following what was possibly the longest single period of downtime in the site’s history. The NationStates website was taken down on January 27th after a user was able to exploit a bug in the new dispatch search feature to gain unauthorized access to the game server. While there are still many questions regarding the incident, the site’s admin team has confirmed that user data, such as email addresses, password hashes, and IP addresses should be considered compromised.
UPC and Comfed Ascend to the Goldenblock by JayDee
This past month saw Europeia’s first Presidential Election of 2026. While the field lacked candidates, it was certainly not without its own flavor of intrigue. The only candidate to stand would be UPC/Comfed, UPC declared his intention to run for President a few weeks before standing opened, primarily in protest to the government’s handling of General Assembly Proposal “Against Racial Segregation” which garnered significant attention and scrutiny from the Senate.
MoFA or NoFA by JayDee
The UPC/Comfed platform was not just contained to reforms in World Assembly Affairs, another bold move was the elimination of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the consolidation of its respective duties to the President. The decision faced significant pushback during the election and Senator HEM initiated discussion in the Senate after UPC’s election to further question and scrutinize the decision.
Senate Highlights by Comfed
The Senate was primarily occupied by discussions of Europeia’s pre-legislative assembly, the People’s Assembly (PA). It considered two competing bills; one by Comfed, which would establish a voting activity requirement for membership, and one by Cordova I, which would require referendums to occur in the PA. While Speaker McEntire opted not to move the former bill to vote, a motion to vote from Senator HEM nonetheless resulted in the bill passing by a margin of 3-2.
In addition to the People’s Assembly, the Senate passed the Europeia is a Republic Amendment. This bill removed the president’s power to send bills passed by the Senate to a referendum–instead, the president now only has the choice to sign a bill or veto it. Additionally, the bill increased the number of signatures required on a petition to force a public referendum on a passed law; it also gave the Senate the power to override the president’s veto, with an 81% majority for ordinary legislation and a unanimous vote for constitutional amendments. President UPC has signed this bill into law.
Currently, the Senate is considering the Cabinet Requirements Act, which would codify the existence of certain mandatory cabinet portfolios–namely, the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, and the position of Grand Admiral of the ERN. The bill came in response to President UPC’s controversial decision not to appoint a Minister of Foreign Affairs, which has been covered earlier in this update.
May the Odds be EVER in Your Favor by Malaxa
Did you volunteer as Tribute? For 34 people, that answer was a resounding yes! Under the guidance of Minister of Culture GK and Deputy Minister Renegade, the region recently kicked off the first two of what will ultimately be five rounds of our own Hunger Games. Folks across the region rushed to sign up and we even saw signups from outside Europeia & Estalcia. Round 1 started off with a bang…literally. Pichvi made the rash decision to step off the starting platform just a tad too early and was blown up as a result. Over the course of multiple days, Tributes from the districts battled, schemed and just plain backstabbed their way to the finish. Round 1 saw District 5’s Nyx come out on top, earning one point. Round 2 was no less action packed. Tributes laughed, they cried, they killed without mercy but there can be only one and that was Renegade, earning a point for District 12. Congrats to the victors thus far and for the remainder…May the odds be ever in your favor.
