Hello everyone!

<dvz_me_placeholder id="0" /> and I spent a little time working on a new plugin, and now we have integrated community awards. To check out the awards supported by our forums, visit this page (which is also on the header's set of links). From here you can see the awards integrated to the forum sorted by category, and click on them to see their recipients (and why those recipients were awarded them).

Right now, the only category is the Orders of the Republic (that seemed like a good starting point), but I'm sure we'll be happy to expand that going forward. All awards will display on the user's profile, I'll use Spode's as an example since he has two. The formatting on the profiles isn't amazing but it works, and we'll see if we can improve it moving forward.

Obviously people who have the awards but don't have forum accounts still have them - in the case of the Orders of the Republic at least, the "master index" so to speak of them remains the dispatch.

Hopefully this feature is well recieved, and naturally feel free to suggest (in this thread) further uses for it.

Unbanning Gagium

Hello,

As many are aware, the region went through a lot of OOC cultural shifts in 2020-21. This was mainly to steer away from/prohibit edgy or otherwise problematic content that we had allowed to become prominent in our off-site platforms. In forcing these cultural shifts, the community experienced a lot of growing pains due to various individuals resisting and attempting to obstruct this progress, resulting in a number of bans and people leaving in anger around the time.

A number of the individuals in that group have, per admin internal agreement, been subjected to a permanent ban. Whether or not this is the case for someone is dependent on the extent and nature of their behavior at the time, and other relevant history. We don't divulge this status (or lack thereof) in public or on third-party request except to other admin teams, but we do to the individuals in question if they ask. For anyone not permanently banned, their ban can be overturned by a unanimous agreement of Community Administrators in consultation with Server Moderators.

Gagium was banned from the Discord and soon after on-site in April 2021 for antagonizing the moderators and breaking server rules regarding problematic language in relation/protest to a previous administrative ban. Nearly two years later, he recently appealed his ban in accordance with the processes outlined in the Community Standards, specifically the appeal subset "review and re-evaluation of an Administrative action against [the party] (example: a user was banned for X violation but believes that time has passed and their behavior has sufficiently changed)".

Upon recieving this appeal, we began internal discussion among staff regarding the reasoning for his ban, time passed, ongoing associations (or lack thereof, including moderation practices other communities Gagium is present in), and other relevant factors. It is our opinion an that,

His behavior, while problematic, has since been remedied and was not behavior that would pose a community safety risk, which is why he is being considered for a second chance at all. The behavior that causes the ban remains entirely unacceptable and would result in a ban if done today by another individual.

The behavior in question took place at a young age that he seems to have matured past.

Gagium has been in contact with an administrator semi-regularly for ~8 months and displayed an improved understanding of the necessity of good moderation practices and the flaws in his prior behavior, both in terms of problematic language and protesting/conduct regarding moderation decisions.

Having done our due diligence to an extent we view as sufficient, the Community Administrators have decided to rescind Gagium's ban from our platforms.

This decision comes with a number of conditions and will set forth the structure of admin procedure for apppeals, with room for deviation per admin discretion, though we are clarifying it for posterity's sake.

If we find out Gagium has been dishonest regarding the appeals process, the ban will be permanently reinstated.

If Gagium repeats any of the behavior regarding problematic language that led to his ban, the ban will be permanetly reinstated. If he repeats any of the behavior regarding disagreement with moderation decisions that led to his ban, he will be given a single warning. If he continues in that instance or another, the ban will be permanently reinstated.

If we find out Gagium has continued the behavior regarding problematic language that led to his ban in other communities, the ban will be permanently reinstated.

Gagium will be on probationary status for moderation/administrative action for the forseeable future for any other offenses, and will be expected to re-integrate and conduct himself in the community as it is today in a respectable manner.

As with any other admin procedure, Community Adminstrators maintain discretion to alter or revisit any policy/decision. If you have questions or concerns, please consider whether they are of a publicly-appropriate nature, and either post them in this thread or contact a Community Administrator directly.

Hello everyone, we have an exciting new administrative project to share!

A common theme in the region over the last year has been infrastructure improvements, be it importing tools like Dot and Hunter Prime or building up other things like this forum. On that note, the admin team has been working with Tech Lizard (haha it's a play on Tech Wizard get it) <dvz_me_placeholder id="5" /> to make us a nice convenient feature to keep our community between the Discord and forums connected. At our request, Spode has been working on the Forum Monitor in our #testing channel, and today we are launching it publicly.

What does it do?

Generally speaking, it's a webhook that will post updates on all public posts made to the forum in #forum-posts (just below announcements on our Discord server). It includes the poster, the thread they posted in, and the timestamp (displayed in the view's local time via unix timestamp).

That's all good, but we have some specific quirks built into it to provide some real utility as well.

Anytime someone other than me posts in the Citizenship Application thread, it will ping me when noting the post on the Discord.

Anytime someone other than an LDF Officer posts in the Military Application thread, it will ping the LDF Officer role when noting the post on Discord.

Anytime someone other than a roleplay moderator/advisor posts in the RP Sign-Ups thread, it will ping the Roleplay Staff & Mentor role when noting the post on Discord.

Yay fancy technology!

Why did we make it?

Well, for one it's good to improve our infrastructure and tools apparatus and this seemed like a reasonable place to start. Two, it will hopefully help myself and LDF/RP leaders keep up with applications and sign-ups, so people don't have to wait, or things don't slip through the cracks. Three, it also has the benefit of connecting our two main off-site communication platforms, which is cool.

Hopefully all goes well, but if there's any issues with it feel free to note them in #staff-requests on Discord (or in this subforum). Be sure to thank <dvz_me_placeholder id="6" /> for his work on this, it was his creation and we're greatly appreciative of it! Additional thanks to <dvz_me_placeholder id="7" /> and <dvz_me_placeholder id="8" /> for assistance in the process (and the latter for hosting support), we look forward to seeing what they accomplish going forward.

Administrative Bans: Andusre, Brototh, ICH, and Altys

Regrettably, due to a recent incident in another region involving several individuals who are also in our server, we are making the following announcement after completing our investigation on the matter. Please read this post in full.

The League and Concord's off-site community administration team has made the decision to ban the users known as Andusre (Andy), Brototh (a.k.a. Cinema), and The Islamic Country of Honour (ICH) for their involvement in the sharing of an individual's personal information without their consent.

The League and Concord's off-site community administration team has additionally decided to ban Altys for administrative negligence.

Several days ago in the Discord server of the region Thaecia (the primary region of those banned), a TikTok featuring a former member of the region was shared. Several users in the chat proceeded to discuss the TikTok's contents and the person it featured, connecting this person to their NS alias which some of them were aware from his usage of it during his time in Thaecia and NationStates which ended in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Over the last several days, we have evaluated all of the evidence surrounding the interaction and have come to the conclusion that the incident took place with intent to mock the user and that once it was shared, his real life and NS personas were extensively confirmed to be of the same person. While several people knew his information from when he was in the region, it is our belief that consent is not continuous/perpetual and is given on a case-by-case basis, and therefore, it was inappropriate to reveal and reiterate the information several years later when another person would not reasonably find it themselves today.

We engaged administrators from Thaecia in a discussion about this topic, at times including Syberis from the New Pacific Order (NPO) community. Their reaction on individual levels and as administrators was, overall, deeply unsatisfactory and at times contained levels of deflection, insinuation that our concerns were unreasonable and condescending, and was otherwise not productive to a necessary extent. Considering the closeness of our communities, we have approached this issue with due diligence and do not feel this has been addressed properly. We cannot in good conscience associate with a community that has allowed this incident to transpire and have banned the relevant individuals from out platform as mentioned above.

Our community has experienced issues with administrative understanding and negligence in the past. As a result of this, we take these matters very seriously, both on our own platforms and in the communities we associate with and play NationStates alongside. These decisions were not made lightly and were made to the best of our ability after reviewing all available evidence and its context.

Questions and concerns can be posted in this thread, or in the case of sensitive subjects of this issue, can be directed privately to an administrator. For a list of rules and staff, please consult our Community Guidelines.

Hello all. Using MyCode, a feature we have on our forum software, I have (with some outside help), created a new custom code for us to use to make posting easier and more familiar. The one I've started us with is the nation tagging code, replicated exactly from how they are on NationStates.net. I've attached an example, the code you'd type to use it, and the displayed result.
Nation Code
It's not a substantial change, but hopefully it serves as a minor quality of life/convenience update! I also plan to add a region tagging code once I figure out the issue that it is currently having. Enjoy.

Administrators make the rules and conduct expectations and appoint and dismiss moderators to enforce them. Administrators also fund (if applicable) and maintain off-site properties such as the Discord server, forum, and wiki.
Moderators enforce the rules and expectations defined by Administrators and may assist them in making other decisions. All Administrators are also Moderators.
Regional Officers in either region will enforce these standards to the extent their permissions allow. Further needs should involve those officers contacting a moderator or administrator.
1. Do not be disruptive or antagonistic to the community or other users. This includes but is not limited to flaming, flamebaiting, and harassment. Treat others with respect on an inter-personal level.
3. Endorsement or glorification of fascism, neo-confederate views/behavior, and political violence are strictly prohibited.
7. Doxxing or revealing personal information of other users is strictly prohibited.
If you wish to appeal an action taken against you by a Moderator on the basis that it was unwarranted, contact an Administrator of your choosing explaining (in fair terms) the nature of the alleged violation and why you believe the staff response was unwarranted. Please follow this process, as arguing in the moment with staff is likely to harm any appeal effort, if not further your immediate consequences.
If you wish to request review and re-evaluation of an Administrative action against you (example: a user was banned for X violation but believes that time has passed and their behavior has sufficiently changed), contact an Administrator of your choosing explaining your understanding of the behavior that led to the removal, why those issues will not be repeated, and any further information you may wish to add.
If you wish to report alleged misconduct by a Moderator, contact an Administrator of your choosing detailing your concern.
